This is what Digimon Adventure fans needed for close to a decade

While most news sources are hyped about the new Digimon series announcement – and I’m happy about it too, don’t get me wrong – I just really can’t stress enough how meaningful the 4-minute PV Digimon Adventure-Beyond is.

When Digimon Adventure Tri was released, it gave us so much that Adventure fans have wanted for a really long time;
It gave us the OG DigiDestined with modern animation, and great casting choices to top it off.
It gave us a beautiful remix of Butterfly, which hit home even more following Wada Kouji’s passing.
Sure, some people may have felt like Meiko own.

But the one thing that felt off about Tri for a very long time was the contradiction with 02’s ending.
That perfectly happy ending, full of hope for literally the entire world – something that is so rare in stories of any medium.
Tri, and subsequently Kizuna and 02:The Beginning, were fun to enjoy as a ‘fan-service’ continuity of its own, but at the same time, for the near-decade since Reunion was released, it felt like accepting it as the canon would betray the happy ending all of the DigiDestined deserved.
As if to make up for last year’s rather lackluster announcements (considering the 25th anniversary), this time Digimon Con stepped up its game for just these 4-minutes, to give us what we’ve been wanting for so long: the best of both worlds.
Now, with this ever-so-slightly retconned continuity, Digimon fans can embrace all Adventure entries completely, and even look forward to the occasional side-adventure here and there, knowing that the good future is already promised.
