Yuuki Aoi, who voices Capella in the third season of Re:Zero, isn’t just a brilliant voice actress; she’s a lifelong anime and gaming fan.
She has spoken openly about her love for anime and games since childhood, and even now, she still plays gacha games like Genshin Impact—where she also voices the main heroine, Lumine. That same passion is what first inspired her to become a voice actress—and it shines through in her unforgettable performance as Capella.
To mark the Season 3 finale of Re:Zero and celebrate Yuuki Aoi‘s 33rd birthday, we’re excited to share this interview with her, originally published in Japanese by Animate Times.

Yuuki Aoi Talks Playing Capella in Re:Zero Season 3
“I Played Her Aiming for a Mix of Absurdity, Unnaturalness, and 2 Millimeters of Cuteness.”
Q: What drew you to Re:Zero? What do you find appealing about the series as a whole?
Yuuki Aoi (hereafter Yuuki): The dramatic reversal when managing to overcome the intense, almost hopeless adversity being faced. It’s always so exciting. The animation is also made with incredible care, like the scene where Capella regenerates, and the attention to detail there bordered on perversion. It shows how deeply this series is loved for a long time, both by the creators and the fans.
Q: What was your first impression when you were cast as Capella, and how did you feel about her as a character?
Yuuki: Capella is a character where you instantly know what’s expected of you. That made me excited, thinking, “I better work hard so that no one would be let down by it.” She’s a girl with a lot of very distinctive lines, so I aimed to bring her to life in a way that everyone watching would think, “That’s exactly how I imagined while reading the light novels!” and approached it with the hope that she’d become an even more intense and infuriating character than in the source material.
“Breaking the Rules of Emotion and Breathing Made Her Feel More Alien.”
Q: What was most important to you when portraying Capella? What did you find challenging? Any direction you found especially memorable?
Yuuki: I played her aiming for “a mix of absurdity, unnaturalness, and 2 millimeters of cuteness”. I deliberately broke the rhythm of normal human behavior—things like steady breathing or the natural build-up and release of emotions. I wanted to shatter that balance completely.
Her character design is extremely cute, so I thought, “What if I can make her feel repulsive despite that?” Even when I thought I had gone all out, the director would tell me, “You can go even further,” which really emphasized, even during the recording how bizarre Capella is.
“Splashing Dragon Blood on Subaru? Chilling… and Weirdly Satisfying.”
Q: What stood out to you in the “Assault Arc”? Any scenes that left a strong impression?
Yuuki: Probably the scene where Capella pours dragon blood on Subaru. I actually see myself as more of an M, but I got excited by Capella and it gave me chills. Everything she does is absolutely unpleasant, but performing it let me do things I never could or would in real life, so it was refreshing.
“Subaru Was So Pitiful… and adorable.”
Q: What’s your impression of Subaru and Yūsuke Kobayashi’s performance?
Yuuki: Subaru-kun was just pitiful and adorable. Even though Capella is clearly someone you can’t reason with, he still tried his hardest to deny her through words. That made me think, “He’s such a good guy…” Kobayashi-san’s acting was amazing when Subaru had dragon’s blood poured on his legs and cried in pain~!—It seriously stirred my sadistic desires!
Capella must’ve been truly pleased too…
Yuuki Aoi on Her Favorite Villains and the Final Stretch of Re:Zero Season 3
“I’m gonna keep doing every wicked, inhumane thing I can… so make sure you love only me, okay? ♡”
“Regulus is definitely the grossest. But I love him.”
Q: Besides Capella, do you have any favorite characters? and since we’re talking about villains, who you feel is the most disgusting character?
Yuuki: Regulus is by far the most disgusting~! He a very tedious virgin-lover… But I love him! (lol)
“There was a dog in the studio, but I had to turn everyone into meat.”
Q: Do you have any fun or memorable stories from the recording sessions?
Yuuki: There was a dog at the Re:Zero studio! So my heart would go all soft and warm just seeing it… but the moment recording started, I had to turn everyone into meat. so the emotional alternating hot-cold bath was intense (lol).
“If I had Capella’s power… I’d transform into my favorite character.”
Q: apella has the ability to freely change her appearance, but if you had that power, how would you use it? Also, if there’s anyone or any animal you’d like to become, tell us?
Yuuki: Uhehehehe… I’d transform into my oshi (favorite)… no wait, I’m way more disgusting than Regulus.
“Capella is back for more! Get ready to be wrecked.”
Q: With just two episodes left in Season 3’s second arc, what should viewers look forward to—especially when it comes to Capella? [TL note: This interview was conducted around the time episode 14 aired]
Yuuki: Capella still has a bit more screen time left! I really tried to make Capella the character you most want to understand… but she’s so damn strong, she refuses to be understood! So I hope you’ll continue getting trampled by the ultra-strong Capella-chan ♡
“I tried to make her so irritating you’d hate her even if you liked her.”
Q: Finally, do you have a message for all the fans who’ve followed Re:Zero this far?
Yuuki: I’m so honored to be part of a series you all hold so close to your hearts. I challenged myself thinking, “Let’s make Capella such an irritating character that even people who like her will hate her,”.
But really, the warped fetishes of you garbage meat are just hopeless…
Even so, it seems like you’re properly loving the anime’s Capella too, which is frustrating but makes me happy (lol).
From here on too, all out! Flashy! Bold!
I will exhaust every cruelty, so please love only me, okay♡
