In the tense political landscape where the neighboring countries of Ostania and Westalis are constantly at odds, peace hangs by a thread due to the actions of warmongering politicians and nationalists. Amidst this chaos, a top spy known as “Twilight,” famous for his mastery in disguise, undertakes perilous missions. His ultimate goal is to prevent any child from suffering the atrocities of war.
Under the guise of “Loid Forger,” a respected psychiatrist, Twilight operates in the lively Ostanian city of Berlint. His primary mission is to spy on the elusive politician Donovan Desmond, who only makes public appearances at his children’s school, the elite Eden Academy. To get closer to Desmond, Loid concocts a plan involving Yor Briar, a single city hall clerk who agrees to pose as his wife, and Anya, a six-year-old orphan with the unique ability to read minds, whom he adopts as his daughter. By enrolling Anya in Eden Academy, Loid aims to gain access to Desmond without raising suspicions.
However, maintaining the facade of a devoted husband and father proves challenging for Loid. Unbeknownst to him, Yor and Anya also have secrets of their own—Yor is a covert assassin known as the “Thorn Princess,” and Anya’s telepathic abilities remain hidden. Despite their relationship being built on lies, the Forgers find that their familial bond, based on genuine affection, becomes the strongest truth among them.
