In 2010, the Holy Empire of Britannia has risen as a formidable military power, initiating its dominance by overtaking Japan. Following its rapid defeat, Japan is rebranded as Area 11 and has experienced considerable resistance efforts from its population striving to reclaim their freedom.

Caught in the violent skirmishes between the Britannian forces and the Area 11 rebels is Lelouch Lamperouge, a Britannian student. His escape from the conflict is aided by a mysterious girl known as C.C., who grants him Geass, referred to as the “Power of Kings.” Recognizing the immense capabilities of his new “power of absolute obedience,” Lelouch decides to assume the guise of the masked vigilante Zero. He launches a relentless crusade against Britannia, fueled by a desire for vengeance.
